A Steer for Summer Camp Organisers

Summer.  Various scenes spring to mind when this word is spoken. For parents, perhaps it’s the idea of their children home for a few months.  This is of course until summer camps kick into gear.  However parents of children with a disability may be met with hesitation from summer camps when seeking enrolment.

In response to this, Enable Ireland has chosen to create an environment for education and empowerment as opposed to confrontation and conflict.  Through workshops hosted by Enable Ireland, summer camp organisers now have the opportunity to learn how to include children with disabilities in their programmes.  Practical examples help to dispel fear around keeping all children happy while remaining inclusive.

“Basically, what we are saying is that everyone is different in some way – different gender, age, height, weight and so on – and a child with a disability is just another child with different qualities and abilities.
