Caroline Casey Attends Dead Sea Summit
Close to 200 Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum have gathered together in Jordon for the Dead Sea Summit. From May 13th – 17th, Jordan will be plus one Dubliner, Caroline Casey. The Forum of Young Global Leaders is a community of leaders from all corners of the world. Each leader has established experience in innovative leadership and is committed to shaping the global future.
“Leadership in Tough Times – Cooperation in Tough Times” is the theme with discussions focused on the current global crisis. The Summit provides a space for intense interaction between leaders, enabling them to gain insight, kick-start solutions and return to their organisations energised to lead in demanding times.

One Wild Life

Caroline Casey Visits Uganda
Caroline Casey is in Uganda this week with Sightsavers International. She discovered Sightsavers in 2001 during her elephant trek through India. Today, Caroline acts as Trustee of Sightsavers and will be spending time with current projects in Uganda including visiting schools.
Sightsavers International works to treat persons who are blind or visually impaired in developing countries. Over 100 million people have been treated across Africa and Asia for conditions such as cataracts and river blindness. Additionally, Sightsavers offers orientation and mobility training to encourage independent lifestyle and advocates for mainstream education and social inclusion.

Caroline Casey Attends WEF 2009 Annual Meeting
Today, Caroline Casey will travel to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum 2009 Annual Meeting. Between January 28th and February 1st, over 2,500 invitees from 96 countries will gather to address the World’s most prominent challenges. Participants include over 40 heads of state and government, 1,400 business leaders, as well as social entrepreneurs, Young Global Leaders, religious leaders and public figures.
In light of current economic climate, the agenda for the Annual Meeting has been reconstructed with the theme “Shaping the Post-Crisis World”. The agenda will include management of the current crisis, shaping the entire post-crisis agenda and utilising the power of collaboration to ensure a stronger state of the world.
This is the fourth WEF Annual Meeting Caroline will attend. As a Young Global Leader, she is looking forward to sharing what was discussed at the 2008 Inaugural Summit on the Global Agenda.

Caroline Casey Attends Summit on Global Agenda
Caroline Casey attended the World Economic Forum’s Inaugural Summit on the Global Agenda. Over 700 influential thinkers gathered in Dubai, forming Global Agenda Councils, each brainstorming on specific global challenges. The 68 councils are designed to promote long term thinking and increase understanding of issues at hand.
Caroline serves on the Council on Diversity. The council addressed diversity’s broadening definition and dimensions while focusing on employment and recent economic downturns.
Councils will provide a framework for discussion at the 2009 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.

Ashoka: Innovators for the Public
What is Ashoka?
Ashoka is the global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs - men and women with system changing solutions for the world’s most urgent social problems. Ashoka describes social entrepreneurs as ‘individuals with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social problems’. Bill Drayton the Founder and CEO set up Ashoka in the early 1980’s. Drayton aims to find change making leaders around the world, provide them with support and watch as they transform ingrained institutions and improve lives exponentially.
Kanchi’s Founder and CEO, Caroline Casey, became the first Ashoka fellow from Ireland in 2006 for her pioneering work in the field of disability. If you want to find out more about Ashoka and its work check out the Ashoka website
