It was Deaf Awareness Week in the UK (2nd May to Sunday 8th May 2011) and organisations across the UK worked with deaf people across the country and invited everyone to 'Look At Me'. The theme aimed to improve understanding of the different types of deafness by highlighting the many different methods of communication used by deaf such as sign language and lip-reading. Read more

watched this film on television last week and thought I’d share it with you! Keep an eye out for Temple Grandin, a biopic television film about an autistic woman who has become one of the most respected scientists in the humane livestock handling industry. Claire Danes recently picked up a Golden Globe, an Emmy and an Actor’s Guild Award for her astounding role as Temple Grandin. Read more

These words, in a job advertisement, could be seen as prejudiced against people with disabilities. But I don’t think so. I don’t see well enough to drive a car and I’d rather know upfront if driving is a requirement. Then I won’t have to waste time applying for a job I won’t be able to do. Read more

Are employers, policy makers, and the general public beginning to realising the business benefits of including people with disabilities?
Kanchi were invited to Brussels last month to attend and present at a European Alliance on skills for employability - a multi stakeholder partnership led by Microsoft with Adecco, State Street and Cisco.

Life has changed dramatically for wheelchair users in the past 50 years. ‘Extraordinary lives’ is the new book written by Joanna Marsden for the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA). The book offers a huge insight into the changes in the personal and public lives of those with a physical disability in the past 50 years.
