Likeness of Being (Working Title)
A ground-breaking global cultural leadership programme designed to challenge assumptions, stereotypes and enhance understanding about disability.
Likeness of Being aims to start a global conversation around disability as it is an area which is often uncomfortable for people who do not have any knowledge of disability. Through the exhibition and associated communications, the general public will be introduced to new images and messages about disability, in order to gain a new perspective on the world’s largest marginalised group of people.
This initiative will focus on a photography exhibition hosted in eight cities worldwide. The exhibition will feature the work of eight Magnum Photographers coupled with a call for submissions from photographers with disabilities. Kanchi will be inviting photographers with disabilities from each host country to produce photographs to represent a sample of their own visual understanding of disability. Building on the exhibition will be an intensive communications campaign including:
- Educational lecture series that will critically engage with some of the topics the exhibition raises
- Website which will act as a portal to showcase innovation in the area of disability
- First ever Global Leadership Group for disability solutions
- Documentary
- Book
Kanchi will deliver Likeness of Being in collaboration with Magnum Photos, Ogilvy and Mather, 7 Global Business Partners and several Global Disability Organisations.
